Modeling A Wine Glass

In this tutorial I will show you how to model a simple wine glass using 3ds Max. This tutorial is for beginner 3ds max user. Here I will explain how to model wine glass using Lathe Modifier in 3ds Max. This modifier is very useful. Not only a wine glass, you can make many objects using Lathe Modifier. Let's begin.

1. First, open 3ds Max. Go to Create tab. Click Splines and Line button. In Front Viewport, draw line like image below (a half of wine glass). Right click to finish drawing line.

2. Next, we need to smooth the line. Go to Modify tab. Activate Vertex selection. Select one vertex, and increase Fillet value. You'll get smoother curvy line.

3. Repeat above procedure to fillet other vertices. Also move several vertices position so you'll get a nice half wine glass shape like image below.

4. When finished, turn off Vertex selection. Make sure spline is selected, apply Lathe modifier. Activate Weld Core and Flip Normals. Use Segments=24. Activate Cap Start and Cap End to fill the cap holes.
At first you wine glass looks ruined. Don't worry. Use Align=Min and your wine glass is fine.

5. The wine glass object is finished. Add floor and wall objects. Sample of finished 3d wine glass is available here
Next, you are ready to texture this wine glass.
