Making of Archinteriors vol. 32 scene

Andrew from Evermotion shows how he made Archinteriors vol. 32 scene using Blender for modeling and 3ds Max and VRay for lighting and rendering.

My main goal was to combine two quite different lighting sceneries – normal, sunny daylight with warm, orange artificial light. At first I matched camera in my scene to my reference – for this purpose I've used BLAM addon (Blender Camera Calibration Toolkit). It's a very simple 3 step process:

15 Tips&Tricks for 3D Studio Max

Tip 1.)
Did you know that "architectural materials" and "self illuminated" materials are light emitting (for Mental Ray & Vray) ? If you apply them on a box you will get a similar effect as a "photometric area light" or a "Vray light".
Tip 2.)
Try to use always soft shadows in your renderings if possible. Hard shadows are looking always very fake. In "Mr Omni/Spot" scale the size of the light in the area light parameters (mental ray).
In Mental Ray you have to use the "RAYTRACED shadows" !

I started to build it from some initial blueprints. I couldn't find much info on it except for a very basic-stage simple plan and section. Thanks to this, I was able to add a few personal details. The whole main structure and individual elements are mirrored by a central axis, so I centered the modeling around just one of the symmetries.

Making of Nasir al Molk Mosque

by Farrokh Tabande, Iran

Hello everyone, Here I want to explain how I made the interior shot of this beautiful Iranian mosque. Please remember this is not the best or the fastest way to make It, It’s just the way I made It!
This is a 200 years old mosque that is located in my home town (Shiraz) and I had the ability to go there and collect any data for modeling and texturing process. So I started to take the pictures and collect all the data that could help me during the modeling and texturing process.
I started to read a book about Iranian architectural geometry to understand every aspect of the shapes; it was so helpful for me! Then I measured all the dimensions of this building.
